Fit for 55” refers to a comprehensive package of legislative proposals introduced by the European Commission in July 2021.

The name reflects the goal of ensuring that the proposed policies and regulations align with the EU’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. The Fit for 55 package includes a series of legislative measures across various sectors, including energy, transportation, industry, and buildings, to help the EU achieve its ambitious emissions reduction target.

The Fit for 55 package encompasses a wide range of policies, such as revising the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), setting new emissions reduction targets for member states, introducing measures to promote clean energy and sustainable transportation, and updating regulations for various sectors to align with the 55% emissions reduction goal.

Both the Green Deal and the Fit for 55 packages are central components of the EU’s strategy to combat climate change, promote sustainability, and lead the way in global efforts to address the challenges of environmental degradation and climate impacts.
