Hubert Abt at CEE Property Forum 2021

Thanks to Property Forum Events & News for organizing a great offline event – CEE Property Forum 2021! Organizers gathered with top real estate specialists and raised a lot of important topics.

Hubert Abt (New Work and workcloud24 CEO) participated in the panel, discussing the future of workplaces, along with moderator Tamás Polster.

At the Day 1 there was a talk on “A global perspective of climate change and energy outlook: Implications for property”

Paul Toyne, Practice Leader Sustainability, Grimshaw asked 200 participants whom of you is concerned about climate change?

Answer: 200 hands went up in the air.

Than the next question was raised: Who thinks that you or your company does enough to avoid global warming.

Answer: 1 hand up in the air.

At the second Day of the Forum

Panel: Green is the new black – ESG strategies under the spotlight

Martin Erbe – Head of International Real Estate Finance Continental Europe, Helaba made it clear.

“We all don´t know where it leads and how it needs to be executed. But what we know is that the central banks will request a Certificate for ESG Compliance for each single property which is being financed.

And if there are not enough data points and measurements to conduct a satisfying report there will be no finance anymore”.

Learning: The awareness is there, but nobody has a clue on a holistic approach to comply with ESG regulations, and at the same time the pressure is increasing from capital markets to be prepared.

Consequence: Not the strongest and the fittest will survive, but the ones which are most adaptable.

Recommendation: as every journey starts with the first step, lets start to calculate the carbon footprint of your space and see where we can achieve some savings.

Not holistic and not perfect but simple, and most important a start!
